Here is a picture of the quilt top that I'm working on for SM
Hmm....I guess I should have ironed it before I took the picture...lol.
I'm in the home stretch now. There is not much left to do...sandwich the quilt, quilt it and bind it. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM...ok, so maybe there is a bit more work left to do on it...but the end is in site. My hope is to finish it this weekend because I really have to start working on the border I have to do for the round robin. I have all the fabric cut out for that....so it should go pretty fast.
Does anyone out there have a favourite marking pencil or tool. I've used those pens that disappear on there own after a few minutes (more like a few seconds...I mark the quilt and then run like a crazy woman back to the sewing machine and hope to god the marking is still there so I can sew the line I need), I've tried the soapstone(?) marking tool, didn't care for that at all....it didn't even show on the fabric, I've tried the chalk pencils as well(you know the ones that the chalk kind of comes out on a little wheel), that didn't work very well either. Now, please don't all gasp at once...but on occasion I have been forced to use a real pen just so I could see the mark and sew properly. (now, I used it on very dark fabric) I know I have committed a terrible sin, but until someone can invent a darn fabric marking tool that doesn't disappear instantly or worse stays permanently, then my quilting friends, I may once again be forced to use the dreaded BIC pen.

Believe it or not I like the disappearing pen, but not so much on dark fabrics. And I love that quilt - it is looking great!
I'm taking a class on beginning free-motion quilting tomorrow, and on the list of supplies is a blue, water-soluble pen. I've never used it before, but I'll let you know how it goes. Before I found out I was going to the class (I was on the waiting list), I'd just bought one of those Chaco lipstick-shaped markers. But I haven't used it yet, either.
WaaaaaHooooooo on the home stretch !!! Quilt top looks super.. What happened to your assistant presser....? Is she falling down on her duties??

Very nice!
Looovinnngg it!!!
I have used a multitude of marking gadgets. The one that I like best on dark fabric is "Miracle Chalk".They look like the dressmakers chalk but they are some kind of wax that you just iron off. There is a pounce version for stencils. Works great on dark fabrics. Also there is a pencil called "Ultimate Marking Pencil for Quilters and Crafters" that washes out. Never use the yellow chaco-liner on light coloured fabric. It never comes out. The blue wash out marker is also good but never iron over it because you then set it in. Good luck.
And... I also use the "Ultimate Marking Pencil for Quilters and Crafters". A nice fine line mechanical pencil. Never use the yellow Chaco-liner on light coloured fabric, it never comes out. Also thr wash away blue marker is good but never iron over it. It sets in the colour. Good luck
I use a fine mechanical pencil and use it lightly-
Luv the Corky quilt ---your aunt
Love the doggy bandana patchwork quilt. Tell S I'm sorry for her loss but the quilt will be a comforting reminder of him for years to come.
I hope my reply works, I'm really new to this.
